ILOILO CITY (PNA) -- The renovation of Calinog public market will start next month after it was gutted by fire almost two months ago.

Mayor Alex Centena said aside from P14 million insured amount of the market, he has solicited an additional P2.5 million from Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. and Senator Ferdinand "Bong-Bong" Marcos Jr. for the renovation of their public market.

Centena added the amount is enough for the renovation of their public market so that the more than 200 market vendors could already go back to their stalls.

The fire destroyed all the stalls inside the market and around 90 percent of those outside the structure. Initial estimates placed the cost of the damages from P150 million to P200 million.Presently, these vendors are occupying the vacant lot along Roxas Street, an adjacent area from their old public market.
