PUERTO PRINCESA CITY (PIA) -- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan endorsed yesterday in its regular session the proposed Lime Milk Plant located in the Rio Tuba Economic Zone (RTEZ).
The proposed plant will be operated by UNICHAMP Mineral Philippines, the largest manufacturer of quick lime and hydrated lime in Malaysia and the Far East.
The plant will supply the Hydrometallurgical Processing Plant (HPP) of the Coral Bay Nickel Corporation with lime milk for treatment of waste water and for neutralization during the mixed sulfide process of the HPP.
Lime is an essential chemical in different operations (dehydration, stabilisation, fixation of heavy metals) of household, industrial waste, and contaminated soils treatment. It is efficient, economical and a safe way to treat waste to prevent bad smell, water contamination due to leaching and vector attraction.
Covering an approximate area of eight hectares, the plant is designed to produce approximately 135,000 tons of quick lime per year and 170,000 tons of lime milk per year.
The raw materials in the form of limestone will be sourced from the existing Gotok Limestone Quarry operated by the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation. (vsm/pia-palawan)
