ILOILO CITY, Oct. 26 (PNA) – The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) on Tuesday started monitoring passenger vessels in preparation for the 2011 Undas.
MARINA regional director Mary Ann Armi Arcilla said that four technical people have been assigned to undertake the monitoring with the Caticlan Port in Aklan as a priority area with the expected surge of passengers going to Boracay Island, Roxas in Capiz and Manila.
Arcilla said that they would not set up passenger assistance desks as they expect the volume of passengers to be manageable with enough traffic of passenger vessels including motor bancas.
“I don’t think there is a rush. We leave that to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) because they are the one that clears,” she said.
Arcilla said that the agency has prepared a checklist of requirements before the vessels are allowed to leave the port.
This include among others the uniform of the crew, marshals, passengers capacity and security measure.
She also said that vessel operators should apply their plans to increase their fares before the MARINA.“So far I have not received any application for special permit for increase in fare,” she said.
However, during inclement weather they can collect P20 because the PCG limits their passenger capacity.MARINA will culminate its monitoring of passenger vessels on Nov. 3. (PNA)
