ILOILO CITY – The process of codifying general ordinances here has started Monday, according to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).
The SP’s Technical Committee on Codification (TCC) headed by councilor Plaridel Nava convened to fast track and finish the codification, and will meet everyday thereafter, except Wednesdays, until the process is complete.
Board secretary IV Remia Regalado said the TCC will make one code out of all general ordinances. The SP will then pass an ordinance regarding the codification.
Any concerns about regulating ordinances on health, education and others not covered by or having a specific code will fall under this, she explained.
Earlier, Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III issued Administrative Order No. 02, series of 2011, entitled "Creating the Technical Committee on Codification (TCC) to undertake the formulation of the Code of General Ordinances".
TCC members are councilors Joshua Alim and R Leone Gerochi, and SP secretary Ruth Arroyo.
The committee also has a technical working group chaired by Atty. Hernando Galvez of the City Legal Office and members that include Regalado, one staff each from Journals Division and Records Division of the SP Secretariat, and one legislative staff from the Office of the SP Committee Chairman and its members.
Meanwhile, Regalado said computerization of ordinances is on-going wherein the SP will come up with one tracking system of all city laws for easier access.
Phase 1 may be finished next month, while Phase 2 will start in January with the ordinances expected to be already accessible on the Internet, she stated. (Lucy Montealto-Sinay/Iloilo City PIO)
